Five Easy Tips to Get Ready for Spring Cycling!

Winter will be over soon, and there is always a thrill in travelling somewhere new, something we can experience and enjoy, looking for bike trails, quiet country roads, small towns and modern cities is always exciting, and what a better way to start than getting ready for the warm-weather cycling rides ahead.

1) Visit your bike shop for a bike tune-up
All of us just want to jump on the saddle and start pedaling, why not? WARM WEATHER SEASON IS HERE TO ENJOY!
But, if you have been riding during the winter, or if your bike spent the cold season on a wall, most probably a tune-up maintenance will be required. you may be looking at flat tires, a dry chain or other issues that need attention. Get your ride over to a mechanic as soon a possible so you can have your bike ready on time for the start of the season.
Hereβs a quick checklist of the maintenance that might be required:
- Bicycle Body Cleaning
- Check wheels for true and tighten any loose spokes
- Breaks inspection and tune-up
- Chain maintenance
- Replace handlebar tape
- Lubricate the bottom bracket bearings
2) Get all your accessories ready
How many times have we heard SAFETY FISRT, and we cannot agree more with that.
Your cycling accessories might look like a luxury, however, they play an important role on having a safe and enjoyable biking experience, so make sure that the gear you rely on wonβt let you down.
Visibility is crucial when youβre out on the road, so make sure your cycling glasses are in good condition, cycling glasses with interchangeable lens are always a great option.
Always consider wearing Cycling Gloves. These simple accessories become the perfect weapon to reduce the tingling or numbness of the hands and also protect them from possible injuries in the event of a fall or accident.
Check that your front and rear lights are working and that your bell will get you instantly noticed.
Refresh the supplies in your emergency kit if you carry one.
Adjust your helmet straps to assure a good fit. Nobody wants to be that rider with a lid askew, and a wobbly helmet also may reduce protection

3) Take your Cycling Clothes out of drawers and closets and give them the once-over
Cycling clothing isn't just about creating a "look," or to make you feel part of the cycling crowd (although it can do that!).
A new kit to welcome the new season is very important not only from a technical perspective but also for that feel-good factor on the bike. In particular, the right padded shorts can enhance your riding experience 10-fold.
A hallmark of cycling clothing is how brightly coloured it is. This isn't just to stand out from the crowd. The bright colours and reflective strips are there to make sure the rider can be seen.
When you cycle, you sweat. It is as simple as that! And this sweat can seriously affect your comfort levels if you don't wear the right clothing. When you wear materials like cotton, they will absorb the sweat and hold it next to your skin. This means that you will first get very wet, and you will then get very cold.
Cycling clothing is made from materials that have a wicking effect. They draw the sweat away from your skin and it evaporates from the clothing instead of from you. This stops you getting wet and it stops you getting cold.
Another hallmark of cycling clothing is how tightly fitted it is and, again, it is tight for a reason. Tighter fitting clothing makes you more aerodynamic.

4) Start slow, and build gradually
To prevent injuries, especially if youβve been off your bike for the winter, or youβre a beginning rider, take the first few rides slowly.
Begin with a low mileage goalβsay, between 5 and 8 miles two or three times per week βand add on a little each day/week.
Ride several days a week. Try first on quiet roads or in the park, you will be surprised at how quickly you will progress. In a few weeks your bike rides will be longer, and the frequency of your rides will increase.
5) Ride with a group
There is no better way to build your confidence and speed than by riding with a group of people.
Donβt be nervous about joining in, cyclists are friendly and the experience will see your fitness and bike handling skills improve much faster than going alone.
Joining a cycling club can help you to make new friends, but you don't have to join an official club to be able to enjoy the social benefits of cycling.
You will find that you will probably run into the same people on your usual routes, and it will help you to start conversations with other people who have similar interests.
Cycling can help to improve your physical health, increase your fitness, reduce your risk of all sorts of diseases, help you lose weight, and improve your mental health and wellbeing (as well as helping to save the environment). The simple fact is that spending more time in the saddle, building your endurance, confidence and skill is the best way to tackle spring head on.
